Howdy! We are so glad your student will join us in Aggieland next semester. As a part of your student’s preparation for their start in Aggieland, they will be required to attend a New Student Conference (NSC). The NSC, coordinated by various offices across the university, is an orientation program required of all new undergraduate students.

To prepare for the NSC, we’ve included the Frequently Asked Questions our office receives below. Additionally, our New Aggie website is a great resource to refer to as your family prepares for the New Student Conference. You can find more information related to the NSC at newaggie.tamu.edu

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How long is the NSC? Where can I find a schedule for the NSC?
    • The New Student Conference (NSC) is a mandatory orientation program for all incoming students. Depending on the session your student selected, the conference may take place over one day or across two days. Your student will receive an individualized schedule via email prior to their NSC, however, to get a sense of the overall flow of the conference, you can also view a general sample schedule online at: newaggie.tamu.edu (Click on Sample Schedule, under quick links)
  • Is it required for a family member to attend the NSC?
    • Students are not required to have a family member attend the NSC, but it is highly encouraged. There will be family-specific programming to learn how to best support your student during their time at Texas A&M University. For incoming freshmen, the NSC fee includes one guest registration. For incoming transfer students with guests or additional freshman student guests, guests can be registered/paid for through the Applicant Portal.
  • Where do I stay during the NSC?
    • Overnight accommodations are not required for the NSC, however, if you are attending a two-day NSC and/or traveling from a significant distance, we recommend an overnight stay in the Bryan or College Station Communities. Additionally, there are on-campus accommodations offered for most conferences. To learn more about your overnight accommodation options, visit our website at: newaggie.tamu.edu/overnight-accommodations.
  • How do I get a parking permit for the NSC?
    • A parking permit is included in your student’s NSC registration fee. To activate this permit, your student must submit their license plate through the applicant portal. Once logged into the applicant portal, click the “NSC Parking Permit” icon and enter your license plate number. If you rent a car or do not know what car you are bringing yet, that is okay! Enter any license plate number into the box for license plate numbers to ensure the permit is activated, once you have your rental car, your student will then be able to update their license plate through their Parking and Transportation Portal.
  • Where do I park for the NSC?
    • Not all parking lots/garages at Texas A&M University are included in the NSC Parking Permit. You can view all lots included in the NSC Parking Permit on the Texas A&M Parking and Transportation website. To get to check-in, we recommend parking in the West Campus Garage (WCG).
