Resource Spotlight: Aggieland Academics

Texas A&M has many academic resources that can help your student adjust to the academic rigor of college. These resources span different subjects and experiences to meet students at their level of knowledge. Both in-person and virtual options are available, so your student can find resources that best fit their schedule. Below is a list of a few key resources for you to familiarize yourself with and talk to your student about should they need the support.

University Libraries

The University Libraries offer so many services and resources to help Aggies find academic success. Texas A&M has six libraries on campus where Aggies can find countless books, journals, articles, dissertations, and even video and audio sources. The libraries also offer librarian consultations, guidance for finding sources, assistance with citation writing, and many other research tools to help Aggies with their assignments. Students just looking for a quiet space to study or a place to meet for a group project can utilize the readily available study areas or reserve a room online to ensure they’ll have a workplace. Another key feature is the ability to check out materials; equipment such as computers, cameras, and projectors are available for free through the libraries. Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center provides several student-centered programs designed to help all Aggies achieve their academic goals. They offer everything from drop-in tutoring sessions to one-on-one or small-group academic coaching to a searchable StudyHub for finding resources based on subject, type of support, or location. Many students also speak highly of the Supplemental Instruction hosted by the center; this academic assistance program provides group study sessions led by students who have taken and excelled in the courses they lead. Visit the Academic Success Center website at asc.tamu.edu to learn more about their services.

University Writing Center

The University Writing Center supports Texas A&M students by helping them develop written and oral communication skills. Their consultants can assist with any type of written work or speaking project at any creative process stage. Students can meet with someone to review their outlines, papers, slides, or videos for both individual and group assignments. They also have practice rooms where Aggies can rehearse presentations and receive feedback. Many of these services are also available via email consultations or Zoom meetings. For more information about the University Writing Center or to schedule an appointment, visit writingcenter.tamu.edu.

Math Learning Center

The Math Learning Center fosters academic success by promoting the growth of students’ conceptual and practical math skills through the use of engaging learning strategies. Tutors can answer course-specific questions during Help Sessions or individual tutoring appointments. In addition to undergraduate tutors, students can choose to attend Week-In-Review sessions led by faculty to revisit all the material covered in the prior week for a specific course. Another option would be to utilize the self-paced learning offered through the Virtual Math Learning Center. Aggies can also participate in Reboot Workshops to review particular mathematical topics rather than course-specific content. Learn more about these services and how to utilize them at mlc.tamu.edu.
