The vision of the Disability Resources is to provide a campus community in which students with disabilities are equal members without barriers. They provide a variety of resources to ensure these students can thrive academically and socially.

Overview of Resources

Accommodations

The Disability Resources office provides various accommodations tailored to meet each student individual needs. Students can request services such as extended test-taking time, note-taking assistance, and alternative formats for course materials. These accommodations are designed to level the playing field, allowing students to engage fully with their coursework. The process for student seeking accommodation includes filling out the application with supporting documentation, review period, and then a meeting with an Access Coordinator.

Testing Center

The Testing Center is where Disability Resources provides an equitable environment for students with exam accommodations such as reduced distraction environment, large print, or exam scribe/reader. It is important to note that your student needs to be proactive in scheduling their test with the center, as dates, location, may change throughout the semester.

Assistive Technology Services

Disability Resources as provided Assistive Technology Services offers technology support services for students with disabilities such as audio books, adaptive software/hardware, alternative format materials, and equipment loan along with AT consultation, training, resources and support. If your student would like to use this services/equipment they have to register with the office every semester.

Communication Access Services

Some of the Communication Access services that the university provides are sign language interpreters, transcription services, and assistive listening devices to qualified students for academic purposes. Additionally, most classrooms and large venues are equipped with Assistive Listening Systems (ALS), and students can borrow personal assistive listening devices for use in settings without built-in systems.

By offering a range of accommodations, a supportive Testing Center, and comprehensive Assistive Technology and Communication Access Services, the office ensures that all students have the necessary tools to succeed. With a commitment to breaking down barriers and promoting equal access, Disability Resources plays a vital role in empowering students to fully engage in their educational experiences and campus life. If your student is seeking additional help or in need temporary accommodations please have them reach out to the main office at 979.845.1637 or disability@tamu.edu or stop by the office located in the Student Services Building on the first floor.

It is the student’s responsibility to make their needs known and to provide the appropriate documentation to support the need for the requested accommodations.
